lightning + lightning bugs

"The difference between
the almost right word
& the right word is
really a large matter--
it's the difference
between the lightning bug
and the lightning."
-- Mark Twain

MISERERE: AN AUTUMN TALE
debuted July 1, 2011!

OFFICIAL BIO

Weronika Janczuk is a literary agent with Lynn C. Franklin Associates. She has worked with the D4EO Literary Agency and at Flux, among others. Currently she represents a wide range of fiction and non-fiction for YA and adults alike—and is very actively building her list, especially  in areas of crime fiction (especially espionage and literary suspense/thrillers), fantasy/sci-fi, horror, women’s fiction and romance, both literary and high-concept YA, memoir, and narrative non-fiction.

Representative sales include MISERERE: AN AUTUMN TALE (Night Shade Books, July 2011), which the Library Journal named its August 2011 debut of the month and called an “exceptional, dark” fantasy in a starred review; TRUCKER GHOST STORIES (Forge/Macmillan, Summer 2012), a collection of ghost stories and lore from employees of the trucking industry; HYPERTENSION AND YOU: Old Drugs, New Drugs, and the Right Drugs for Your High Blood Pressure (Rowman & Littlefield, June 2012), a study of and guide to medications prescribed for high blood pressure; DANCING IN THE DARK (Flux, Winter 2013), originally published by Penguin Australia, a literary YA about an orthodox Jew who chooses to dance behind her parents’ backs, in a two-book deal; and THREE PARTS DEAD (Tor/Macmillan, October 2012), a very clever fantasy about a first-year associate at an international necromantic firm who must unravel the mystery surrounding a god’s death, in a two-book deal.

FUN FACTS

In addition to being an agent, Weronika Janczuk (pronounced: Veronica Janchuck) is a writer, student, lit mag editor (x2), Pole, and more.

Both Weronika’s love for writing and her love of reading contributed to her professional interest in publishing. Her career began in 2009, where she interned with Brian Farrey at Flux/Llewellyn in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

She was born in Ontario, Canada, a few months after her parents immigrated, and since then has lived in Ontario, Poland, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. She now divides her time between New York City and the Twin Cities.

She speaks/reads/writes both English and Polish fluently and hopes to add French to the list before long.

Weronika finds time for all of these interests by reading quickly, watching very little television, and living with less sleep on the weekends. She does, however, love to spend a bit of time now and then with ‘80s and ’90s music, witty (published) novels, funky art, and nice, good, smart people.
