lightning + lightning bugs

"The difference between
the almost right word
& the right word is
really a large matter--
it's the difference
between the lightning bug
and the lightning."
-- Mark Twain

Musings from a
literary agent.

MISERERE: AN AUTUMN TALE
debuted July 1, 2011!

I’m a literary agent with Lynn C. Franklin Associates, Ltd., where I represent an array of fiction and non-fiction for both young adults and adults (see below). My job is to place books with major trade publishers, handle the licensing of related subsidiary and translation rights, guide writers through the process of marketing and publicizing those projects, and work to build careers.

MY SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All queries should be sent to weronika@franklinandsiegal.com

Please send—

  • a concise one-page query letter
  • with fiction and memoir, the first five pages of your manuscript
  • with non-fiction, a clear bio and/or resume/list of credentials (nothing from the proposal)

Please make sure that—

  • you include the word QUERY in the subject line
  • you don’t attach anything
  • your manuscript fits within one of the genres that I represent (listed below)

GENERAL GENRE INTERESTS

I represent, generally, commercial fiction, though I always love books with a literary bent:

  • YA
  • crime
  • fantasy / sci-fi / paranormal
  • horror
  • single-title romance
  • other commercial fiction, including historicals
  • accessible literary fiction (think HOTEL ON THE CORNER OF BITTER AND SWEET)
  • memoirs
  • commercial non-fiction in areas related to women’s interests, history, current events, politics, biography, medicine/health, food, social sciences, science, New Age, history, the arts, education, psychology, parenting, pop culture, the environment, sports (nothing mainstream—I’m interested in things such as sailing, Xtreme Sports, etc.),  and relationships

I don’t want to see any:

  • picture books
  • middle grade
  • financial/business thrillers
  • chick lit
  • hardcore literary fiction
  • books written for the academic community
  • cozy mysteries
  • erotica / erotic romances
  • cookbooks
  • short story collections
  • novellas
  • Christian fiction

SPECIFICS/WHAT I LIKE TO READ

For a detailed list of books and authors I like, as well as things I’d love to see, click here (coming soon/undergoing renovation).

Please note that, if you’re unsure if I’ll like what you have (or even persuaded that I won’t) based on what I’ve written, still query me. You never know. It’s just a list and it’s impossible to define everything.

The worst that can happen is you’ll receive a form rejection, which means absolutely nothing.
